Home-School Co-operation

Communication

Please inform the school immediately if any of your contact information changes. This applies to home and work telephone numbers, e-mail addresses and home location. We need to keep our databases up to date as we may need to contact you urgently.

OIS provides numerous means for parents to receive information about school events. OIS Dynamite newsletter is published on the first day of each month on the school website and is also distributed to parents through e-mail. The newsletter contains information about forthcoming events, reminders of holidays, closures etc. Parents are advised to read OIS Dynamite carefully each time and register any important dates in their diaries. In addition, the Class/Homeroom Teachers send class bulletins either by e-mail, or in MYP through Helmi, to keep parents and students updated throughout the year. Students are responsible for taking any letters home and, if required, returning them signed by parents to school.

Parents' Evenings and Parent-Teacher Conferences

Open evenings offer a more formal opportunity to see the school and meet the staff. General parents' evenings are organised with information about our programmes for all parents, and each Class/Homeroom Teacher may organise a separate parents' evening for their classes.

Parents are invited to a Parent-Teacher Conference twice a school year to discuss their child's progress at school. Conferences are a positive way to keep open the lines of communication between home and school and to set goals for the future. We expect parents and students to make every effort to attend these conferences. Parents may also request a conference at any time with any teacher to discuss their child's progress.

Parents in School

Our school cannot operate successfully without the support and understanding of parents. Parents, therefore, are welcome in the school at all times. We are fortunate to have many supportive parents, and many activities are provided by them for both students and parents. Many of their fund-raising activities involve the whole school, and the funds raised provide the school with a greater range of equipment and experiences than would be normally possible. We hope that all parents will support these functions and offer all the assistance they can.
