Areas of Interaction
The five organizing elements (Areas of Interaction) provide the "lenses" through which the curriculum is approached. They provide a framework for learning within and across the subject groups, which makes interdisciplinary projects (i.e. projects containing several school subjects and real-life issues) an essential form of learning in our school.
We appoint experienced teachers to act as leaders for each Area of Interaction. Their role is to assist teachers with the natural integration of each Area of Interaction into their subjects. The leaders are also charged with planning to include the Areas of Interaction into other school activities and raising the profile of the AoI. The Areas of Interaction are as follows:
Approaches to Learning (AtL)
- different learning styles;
- how to develop, organise and present ideas;
- how to access information from the library, the Internet and other media;
- how to work independently and collaboratively; how to solve problems.
Community and Service
- to develop community awareness and a sense of responsibility: students are expected to become actively involved in service activities.
Human Ingenuity
- the creation and discovery of technology, ideas, art, culture, languages and systems such as legal, government, health;
- includes the ethnical dimension of advances in science, technology, medicine etc.
Environments
- aims to make students aware of their interdependence with the environment and their responsibility for maintaining an environment fit for the future.
Health and Social Education
- prepares students for a physically and mentally healthy life.
