OIS Handbook Oulu International School (OIS) provides education mainly through English for children of all nationalities within the greater Oulu area from 7 to 16 years of age. We are an IB (International Baccalaureate) school offering authorised Middle Years (MYP) and Primary Years (PYP) programmes. Completely refurbished and modernised, OIS is equipped with some of the best and most up-to-date learning resources available. Students can enjoy their studies in modern and spacious classrooms and group rooms, chemistry, biology and computer laboratories, a language laboratory, an art room, music and drama room, a home economics (domestic science) room, a gymnasium and a well-stocked library. After class students can relax at the school playground and sports field or attractive lounging areas with Internet access. OIS is located within close proximity to further playing fields and a public swimming pool, as well as the cathedral, science centre and art museums. Students are taught in 17 mixed-ability age-based classes by enthusiastic and committed teachers, supported by a team of auxiliary staff. Total enrolment of the school is about 295 children representing approximately 20 different nationalities. The school year is from mid-August to early June. The teaching staff is highly qualified and experienced and offers a wide range of expertise to support all areas of the national curriculum in a secure and caring environment. We enjoy close links with the English-speaking Playschool of Oulu and the IB Diploma Programme of Oulun Lyseo. OIS is owned by the City of Oulu and exists to meet the educational needs of the international and internationally minded community in and around Oulu. As an IB Primary and Middle years school for IBO (International Baccalaureate Organization), we implement the Primary Years (PYP) and Middle Years (MYP) programmes through the first nine years of education. |

To enrol your child to our school, please fill in the OIS application (pdf) form and send or fax it to us.In general, admission is open to all students, including those from municipalities outside Oulu, who can profit from a challenging, international, English language education. |
